Precast Bridge Deck Panel Testing

Purpose:

The purpose of this project is to document the flexural capacity of longitudinal joints between precast concrete deck panels and to evaluate different reinforcing details and the concrete materials for use in these joints.

Project No: Lafayette WO 001

Anticipated Outcomes:

The anticipated outcome of this project is to develop a simplifying revision to PennDOT’s current typical joint detail that still satisfies flexural capacity demands, while also accommodating the region preference for bottom reinforcing bar location.

Lafayette College will evaluate / test various steel arrangements and joint materials to support their conclusions.

From this evaluation, research, and testing; conclusions and recommendations for changes to our designs, materials, publications and standards will be developed as a series of deliverables that can later be implemented by PennDOT.
