PennDOT's Annual Report is now available to view on the department website. Like years past, the Annual Report seeks to highlight the many accomplishments during the previous year. However, 2020 was no ordinary year, and the dedicated employees at PennDOT never lost track of their mission to enhance, connect and add value to our communities by providing a sustainable, equitable transportation system and quality services for all.
Working during a pandemic presented many challenges but employee innovation overcame them as they surfaced. Some innovations developed will forever change the way we do some things, and some will go away as we move forward.
Our Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) department likely affected Pennsylvanians' day-to-day lives more than any other department during the pandemic. From extending deadlines for CDL's or adjusting to no-contact license testing to the Real ID reset, DVS has been on the front lines battling the effects of this pandemic.
This year was also special as PennDOT celebrated its 50-year anniversary. The yearlong celebration – 50 Years of Building Communities – highlighted decades of milestones in the organization and the state's transportation system. Visit www.penndot.gov/50years to see our employee stories and learn more about Pennsylvania's transportation history.
Supporting all modes of transportation, PennDOT's Multimodal team worked tirelessly to provide safe rides for those with few options. We've witnessed a surge in alternate transportation like walking and bicycling. In 2020, PennDOT's first Active Transportation Plan was completed, outlining a vision and framework for improving conditions for walking and bicycling across Pennsylvania – most notably for those Pennsylvanians who walk and bicycle out of necessity rather than for leisure and recreation.
