High Street Pedestrian Improvements

Project Location

Overview

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to view and offer comments on the plans displayed for the project to improve S.R. 2003/3100 (High Street) in West Chester Borough, Chester County.

The project involves several safety enhancements aimed at reducing the occurrences of crashes involving vehicles and pedestrians. The improvements begin at the intersection of Miner Street and continue south to Rosedale Avenue.

The proposed improvements, which align with the South High Street Corridor StudyOpens In A New Window commissioned by the Borough, include new curb extensions (bump-outs) with new ADA curb ramps, updated pavement markings and street signage, upgrades to existing traffic signal equipment, and new traffic signals at select intersections. Existing signalized intersection upgrades will include new LED lighting mounted to signal poles and new pedestrian push buttons and countdown timers. New traffic signals will be installed at the Sharpless Street and University Avenue intersections. There are no anticipated temporary or permanent right-of-way acquisitions for this project.

During construction, one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained and shifted as necessary to construct each side of the roadway through the project limits.

A public meeting was held on Tuesday, December 6; a recording and presentation slides are available here.
