PennDOT opens state-of-the-art maintenance facility in Bucks County

PennDOT opened the doors in November to its newest maintenance headquarters in Plumstead Township, Bucks County. The new 57,000-square-foot facility boasts state-of-the-art equipment and seven buildings residing on a 544,000-square-foot site.

The new facility will enhance and modernize maintenance operations for PennDOT in Bucks County. The seven buildings house administration, maintenance, sign, bridge and paint crews, salt and brine storage, and a pump shed. The administration offices have new work spaces, conference rooms with high-tech equipment, break rooms and locker rooms for staff.

Some of the immediate benefits of the new facility are more work space to organize equipment, a truck washing station and additional maintenance bays in the garage. The new truck washing station will extend the life of PennDOT's trucks by allowing crews to wash salt off more quickly to reduce damage to vehicles. An increase in the number of maintenance bays in the garage from four to 10 will allow mechanics and others to tend to the trucks more effectively and efficiently.

For staff, the new facility will provide improved personal and building safety features, which include an emergency eye washing station, a fire suppression system, standby generator, security cameras, and a high-security chain link fence with motorized access.
