Route 4001-020

TThis is a four-year bridge rehabilitation project of the bridge carrying Route 4001 (Little Pine Creek Road) over Little Pine Creek in Pine Township.

Work began on the project in the fall of 2023 with minor preparation work. In the spring of 2024, the contractor started pile installation for the temporary bridge foundations. The temporary bridge will carry traffic during the rehabilitation of the suspension bridge.

The bridge, which is listed on the National Historic Landmarks and National Register of Historic places in Pennsylvania, was built in 1891. It will be disassembled, and parts and pieces will be sent away to the fabricator for cleaning and upgrades. The bridge will then be reassembled, and the temporary roadway will be removed. Once completed, the structure’s weight restriction will increase from 3 to 10 tons.

Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2026.

State Route 199-010

This multi-year reconstruction of 2.6-miles of Route 199 from the New York state line in Sayre Borough to just north of the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks (near the Agway) in Athens Borough, began in the fall of 2020.

Final work on Stages 3, 2, and 1 will begin in April of 2024. Work planned this season includes:

• Stage 3, between Vanderbilt Street and Pine Street, Athens Borough will begin in April of 2024. Work will be completed in half widths with the southbound traffic using Route 199 and the northbound traffic detoured onto various routes as the construction phases progress.
• Stage 2, between Pine Street and Spruce Street, Athens Borough is set to begin in mid-summer of 2024. Work will be completed in half widths with the southbound traffic using Route 199 and the northbound traffic detoured onto various routes as the construction phases progress.
• Stage 1, between Spruce Street and 350 ft North of Satterlee Street, Athens Borough is set to begin in late summer of 2024. Work will be completed in half widths with the southbound traffic using Route 199 and the northbound traffic detoured onto various routes as the construction phases progress.

• The reconstruction project includes new curbing, ADA accommodations at intersections (where appropriate), improved drainage, signal upgrades at three intersections, utility upgrades, new paving, and line painting.

  Work is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2024. Work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.

Route 15-88D

These are the first two of three primary contracts for the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation (CSVT) Project’s Southern Section. These $221.5 million contracts include 4.5 million cubic yards of earthwork and new bridges for the new section of Route 15 between Selinsgrove and Winfield. The Southern Section will tie into the recently opened Northern Section of CSVT which connects Route 15 near Winfield, Union County to Route 147 near Montandon, Northumberland County.

The first contract includes installing drainage throughout the project, constructing erosion and sediment pollution control structures, constructing one new bridge over CSVT, constructing three box culverts, and realigning a few local roads.

The first contract is currently 75% complete with earthwork and drainage south of Mill Road finished. In late 2023 a new bridge was constructed that carries Sunbury Road over the future CSVT, realignment of Park Road, and the two roundabouts on Mill and App Roads. The roadway connecting the roundabouts is anticipated to be opened in the spring of 2024.

Work began in Summer 2022 and is anticipated to be completed in 2025.
