The Office of Medical Assistance Programs (OMAP) administers Pennsylvania's Medicaid program, known as Medical Assistance in Pennsylvania.
Medicaid is a joint state-federal program that provides health care to nearly 3 million Pennsylvanians of all ages in all counties. The program offers coverage for health care services through the HealthChoices managed care program that is administered by contracted managed care organizations and, for some enrollees, through fee-for-service payments. OMAP oversees quality management and innovation in Medicaid and is also responsible for enrolling providers, processing provider claims, establishing rates and fees, contracting and monitoring of managed care organizations, and helping monitor for potential fraud and abuse in the program.
OMAP also oversees Pennsylvania's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the eHealth Partnership, which manages the Pennsylvania Patient and Provider Network of health information exchanges.
