    PennDOT Quickly Reopens Main Street in Washington Township and Bangor Borough, Northampton County

    This past July, severe weather caused devastating flash flooding in the Slate Belt region of Northampton County. Main Street between Labar Road in Washington Township and Messinger Street in Bangor Borough experienced heavy flood damage and was closed.GovShapiro SecCarroll.jpg

    Staff from Engineering District 5 and the Northampton County Maintenance office quickly developed a plan to remove debris, inspect the road and make repairs. Within eight days they successfully removed debris, repaired several pipes, repaired sections of washed out roadway and paved the roadway to reopen it for the 1651 motorists that travel Main Street each day.Main Street Bangor.jpg

    Governor Josh Shapiro, Secretary Mike Carroll, and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) Director Randy Padfield visited the area on July 31 to see firsthand the extent of the regional flood damage. They toured the area with Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure.

    Northampton County government officials said in a news release that 12 municipalities reported damage from the July 16 storms. The County's emergency management service received reports of damages to 210 households across Bangor, Bushkill Township, East Bangor Borough, Forks Township, Lower Mount Bethel Township, Nazareth, Palmer Township, Plainfield Township, Portland, Stockertown, Upper Mount Bethel Township and Washington Township.
