    Check your vehicle for recalls to ensure safety

    Being safe on the road isn't just about driving skills — it's also about making sure your vehicle is in top-notch condition. Nearly 1 in 4 on the road today has an open, unrepaired recall. This can seriously affect the safety of you and those around you.

    Vehicle owners should check their vehicle for recalls at least twice a year, so daylight savings time offers a handy reminder to also check your car.

    Checking for recalls is free and easy. Visit CheckToProtect.orgOpens In A New Window and enter your 17-digit VIN number.

    If there is a recall on your vehicle, you should also receive a recall notification via first-class mail from the vehicle's manufacturer. When there is a recall on your vehicle, a dealer will repair it for free.  

    Don't ignore a recall on your vehicle. A quarter of recalls are prompted by significant safety concerns, including steering, fuel systems, braking, wheels, air bags, wiring, and other components.
