State Police Cadet: All recruits enter the PSP Academy under the rank of Cadet and must complete basic training to become a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper. Cadets and Troopers must meet the Department's Cadet eligibility requirements and pass the Cadet selection procedures.

Liquor Enforcement Officer Employment Information

Learn about the salary, benefits, and career as a Liquor Enforcement Officer.

Liquor Enforcement Officers are responsible for conducting investigations performed through undercover operations and open inspections of licensed or unlicensed liquor establishments. They have the power and duty to arrest for violations of the Pennsylvania Liquor Code and specific Crimes Code-related offenses.

Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainee: Trainees enter an approximately 16-week training period before they can become a Liquor Enforcement Officer. The training is designed to eliminate any applicant who does not possess the necessary intelligence, emotional stability, or physical stamina to meet the requirements. Positions are located throughout the state. Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees and Liquor Enforcement Officers must meet the Department's eligibility requirements and pass the selection procedures.

Civilian Employment

Gaining civilian employment with the Pennsylvania State Police and thus, the Commonwealth, is different from gaining employment with a private organization/company. Job titles are designated as being either Non-Civil Service or Civil Service. This designation determines the applicable placement procedures for a given classification. 

Police Communications Operators - PCOs receive, transmitt, maintain, and coordinate public safety information in support of PSP law enforcement functions. These positions are staffed 24 hours per day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays.

Forensic Laboratory Career Opportunities - PSP's Bureau of Forensic Services provides unique career opportunities for the analysis of criminal evidence. Positions include Civilian Forensic Scientist and Enlisted Forensic Examiners.
